Samena Squares Lesson #14

Dear Friends,

Happy New Year! It was great to see everyone Thursday night and to get back to dancing.

This week we learned one of two rules that you need to know to be a successful dancer. It is the Facing Couples Rule, defined below. As we progress in the next weeks we will be using it more and more. And we will learn the other rule too.

Dance dates:
Friday, February 7: First Friday Fun Fest at the Whirlybirds, squares 7:30 – 10:30 p.m. Dave Harry, calling, at the Hayloft, 15320 35th Ave W, Lynnwood.
Friday, February 28: Chocolate Disco Dance at the Samena Squares, squares 8 – 10:30 p.m. Susan Morris, calling and Karen Neverdowski, cueing.

Happy dancing,
Susan

Week #14:
Facing Couples Rule
A few specific calls that are defined to start from an OCEAN WAVE are also proper starting from Facing Couples. The timing of the call does not change.

The one that we know at this point is Swing Thru. In this case, dancers first step into a momentary Right- Hand Ocean Wave and complete the call. In the next few weeks we will be learning other calls that fall under this rule too. I will be sure to point them out to you.

55. Pass to the Center: PASS THRU, outfacing dancers automatically PARTNER TRADE, in facing dancer in center are finished. PASS TO THE CENTER – 2 steps for couples facing, 6 steps for couples facing out.

61. Slide Thru: With the dancer you are facing pass thru, Boys turn 1/4 right and Girls turn 1/4 left. ALWAYS! If a Boy is facing a Girl they end up as partners side by side. If a Boy is facing a Boy they end up holding right hands in a mini-wave. If a Girl is facing a Girl they end up holding left hands in a mini-wave. SLIDE THRU (box of 4 dancers) – 4 steps.
