Dear Friends,
Happy New Year! It was good to see you after the holiday break. It was good to get back to dancing.
Some of you asked when class will be finished. Right now graduation is scheduled for Thursday, March 10. That is nine more weeks of classes. The challenge is that we have 24 more calls to learn. I don't like to teach anything new the last two weeks at least. I prefer to keep the last three weeks open for review and more practice time. The more floor time you have with the calls the better dancer you are and the easier the dancing is.
Knowing that information, it leaves us with 6 or maybe 7 weeks to learn those 24 calls left on the list. Some are brand new and some are variations of calls we have already learned. The challenge is that we really need to learn 3-4 new calls each night. I'm confident that we are up to it.
Last Thursday night we did lots of review but only learned one new call. This week we will have to balance learning the new calls and reviewing the ones we know as we dance.
I would encourage you to review the definitions of the calls we know before class, especially the ones that we learned the two or three weeks before Christmas break.
Also if you miss a week please come early the week you return so we can at least walk through the moves that you missed.
And don't forget to come to the Samena Squares Level Dance this Friday, January 14. The theme is Around The World In 80 Days. I will be calling.
I'm also calling a Student Level dance the following week for the Square Crows. They dance at the Sammamish Valley Grange by the Hollywood School House.
Have a great week! See you on Thursday ready to dance!
Happy dancing,
Susan
Week 14:
61. Slide Thru: With the dancer you are facing pass thru, boys turn 1/4 right and girls turn 1/4 left. ALWAYS! If a boy is facing a girl they end up as partners side by side. If a boy is facing a boy they end up holding right hands in a mini-wave. If a girl is facing a girl they end up holding left hands in a mini-wave. SLIDE THRU (box of 4 dancers) – 4 steps.
Next week: Half Sashay, Left Square Thru, Cross Run, Eight Chain Thru
