"Hellacious" Community Dance
08/29/2010
Last night, August 28, was the first ever “Hellacious” Community Dance at the Congregational Church on Mercer Island. This dance was rganized by Leslie Young, Publicity and Promotions for Central Puget Sound Council. I had the pleasure of calling with my friend, Janet Shannon, from Vancouver, WA.
It was a fun little dance with some old friends and some new friends. The dances included some line dances, some contra dances, a mixer or two, and of course, squares.
Everyone had fun and stayed until the end! Always the sign of a successful evening!
All the dancers asked if we would be having another Community Dance. We hope to in the near future.
Watch this space for a date!!!

Happy August!

Happy last days of August, everyone!
The end of summer is upon us. Nights are cooler. Days are shorter. There is even dew on your windshield in the mornings. Some tree leaves are even changing colors already.
We received the September “Promenading Around the Sound” this week. A quick read shows that the 2010-2011 dance season will soon be in full swing. I hope you are looking forward to dancing to support your club.
September also brings the start of new dancer classes for many clubs. New dancers are understandably nervous about joining a group where everyone knows everyone else. Make them feel welcome. Say hi! Sit and talk with them. Find out their interests. Share yours. Work hard to eliminate the “them” and “us” from the very first night. If you can, try to think back to your first night of lessons. You were nervous too, weren’t you? And someone sat down beside you or asked you to join their square and became a new friend. It is your turn now.

Welcome to my new web page and blog!
I hope that you will visit often. I will be sharing my thoughts on square dancing from time to time. I can’t promise it will be everyday. I will most likely be out dancing and not have time to write. But I will add a thought or two about the happenings in Square Dance Land.
