Samena Squares Newsletter #10

Dear Friends,
Good class Thursday night! We missed many of you. Susie and Randy almost had a private lesson. Tom came a bit later. We had two squares dancing much of the night.
The list of the moves we learned is below. We will go over them all when we meet next time.
We also spent lots of dance time on Trades, Runs, and Circulates. We will be spending lots of time on this in the coming weeks too. There are many callers who say that if a dancer can Trade, Run, and Circulate correctly every time, they can dance anywhere to anyone and be successful.
Don’t forget that next Friday, November 25, is the Samena Cruise Dance. It will be half Mainstream and half Student Level. Please plan to come. I have sent the caller an email to let him know where we are on the list.
Something to think about…dancing during the Christmas holiday weeks – My proposal is to NOT dance on Thursday, December 22. Those will be busy days leading up to the weekend. If you are interested, we can have a workshop for those who want to dance on Thursday, December 29. I wouldn’t teach anything new. We would just dance more and maybe work on some of the variations that we don’t necessarily have time for in class. Think about it and we can decide when we meet again on December 1.

Week #10
8 c. Wrong Way Grand: Same as RIGHT AND LEFT GRAND except in opposite direction. Still starts with the right hand. WRONG WAY GRAND – 10 steps.
33. Slip The Clutch: In a Thar Star, the centers keep their star and let go of the outsides and start walking forward. The outsides let go of the centers and continue walking forward. Walk forward the designated distance to complete the next command. SLIP THE CLUTCH – 2 steps.
34b. Shoot The Star – Full Around: The same as ALLEMANDE LEFT using the existing forearm grip for a full circle, 360 degrees. SHOOT THE STAR – FULL AROUND – 8 steps.
35. Box The Gnat: This is one of the few moves that actually require a boy and a girl. With the person you’re facing join Right hands (by the fingertips. Boys palms up girls palms down). Raise the joined hands Girls turn left face under the forming arch, boys step across behind the girls. Both end in the others starting position and facing direction. Right hands joined. BOX THE GNAT – 4 steps.
36. Trade Family:
36 c. Partner: Directed dancers change places with their partner. Every TRADE includes a reversal of facing direction. PARTNER – 4 steps;
49. Trade By: Couples in the center facing each other PASS THRU while the outfacing dancers do a PARTNER TRADE to face in. TRADE BY – 4 steps.
